The main aim of the proposed dissertation will be the synthesis of various nano- and micro-crystals doped with rare earth ions, mainly Iterbium, which could be cooled in water. They will be tested, among others, crystals of various sizes from about 4 nm to several µm and different content of rare earth ions, core-shell crystals, crystals with a surface protected with a polymer layer, polymer microparticles containing nanocrystals. In this doctoral project, syntheses, basic spectral and morphological research (XRD, SEM, TEM) will be carried out. The PhD student may or may not participate in optical research on cooling the synthesized crystals and optical measurement of their temperature. This research will be conducted by a postdoctoral fellow who will work closely with the doctoral student. The work will be carried out together with dr inż. Paweł Karpiński as an auxiliary promoter.
The research work is part of an international research project in cooperation with prof. Frank Cichos from the University of Leipzig: "Anti-Stokes Cooling for Fluidics". As part of the doctorate, it is possible to travel abroad to a group in Germany or other friendly foreign groups in Spain or the United States.
